Tucker Carlson derails Trump conversation to talk about Penn Station's bathrooms

Impact

In the midst of political turmoil, Tucker Carlson has taken a bathroom break. That is, a break to talk about the bathrooms at New York City's Penn Station.

On Tuesday evening, Tucker Carlson invited New York City council member Corey Johnson onto his Fox News program to talk about his proposed bill that would force Trump to release his tax returns. The legislation, if passed, would mandate that people — like Trump — with their names attached to a business entity disclose their personal tax returns.

However, conversation of the bill veered swiftly into potty talk. Carlson pushed Johnson as to why he's working on legislation aimed at Trump's tax returns when there are local problems in need of his attention.

"Have you been to Penn Station recently?" Carlson asked. "It's like a homeless shelter, it's disgusting."

"It's in my district," Johnson responded.

Carlson continued, "You're worrying about Trump's tax returns? Are you joking? Have you been to the men's room there? Dead serious question. Have you been to the men's room in Penn's Station?"

Though Carlson decided to harp on a singular bathroom in the train station, his underlying argument was that Johnson, a local NYC politician, should not concern himself with national business.

Johnson asserted that he can focus on his district and Trump at the same time.

"I am focused on all the issues that affect my district," Johnson said. Carlson responded by yelling more about Penn Station's "disgusting" bathrooms.

Not on the docket during Carlson's interview were the slew of controversies that have caused Trump's approval ratings to go down the (Penn Station) toilet.

Carlson replaced Bill O'Reilly in Fox News' 8 p.m. slot after O'Reilly was ousted following news about multiple allegations of sexual and verbal harassment.

Carlson has had no shortage of explosive interviews centered around Trump, many of which included him talking over his guests. In December, Teen Vogue columnist Lauren Duca fired back at Carlson on his show, calling him a "partisan hack" who was not allowing her to speak.
