Cannes isn't just about the movies — here's the side of the film festival you don't see

Culture

The 2017 Cannes Film Festival is currently underway, and it's more than just the movies that make the festival so memorable.

When Adam Sandler isn't busy earning the best reviews of his career, he and his fellow celebrities are partying. When they're not partying, they're wearing designer couture. When they're not busy slaying the red carpet, they're involved in massive bidding wars or revealing their diet secrets. So much happens at Cannes, it's hard to keep track.

From Rihanna shutting down the Cannes red carpet to Emma Thompson sharing her love of bread, here are the best 11 moments that have happened at Cannes so far:

1. This photo of Eva Longoria, Julianne Moore and Salma Hayek

Although it's unknown what Longoria, Moore and Hayek are discussing in this picture, it is mesmerizing and amazing all the same.

2. Kristen Stewart's outfits

One of the many queens of Cannes, Stewart absolutely slayed the red carpet at the premiere of her directorial debut, Come Swim.

In classic Stewart style, she donned an equally memorable outfit for a Hollywood Reporter photo shoot:

3. Emma Thompson loves bread.

When asked about her favorite festival guilty pleasure, Thompson admitted she's been indulging in bread. A lot of bread. So much bread that she can't stop eating all of it.

4. Nicole Kidman and Elle Fanning's friendship

Fanning and Kidman both star in How to Talk to Girls at Parties. The pair adorably hugged while posing together on the red carpet for the film's premiere.

5. Kidman's tutu dress

Speaking of Nicole Kidman, Cannes has become her personal fashion runway. She wore this breathtaking dress at the premiere of The Killing of a Sacred Deer. It's a tutu dress, so just give her the Palme d'Or now.

6. Rihanna being Rihanna

Rihanna is in Cannes to support her collaboration with jewelry brand Chopard, but she also decided to stop by the premiere of Netflix's film Okja. Although Rihanna is not in the film and has absolutely nothing to do with it, she won the red carpet with this unforgettable look.

She wasn't just killing the red carpet, either. Rihanna used her hotel room for a Cannes-themed photoshoot:

7. Mary J. Blige reportedly broke up a fight between Kate Moss and another guest.

Things got a little too lit between Moss and a fellow partygoer at a Fashion for Relief after-party at Cannes.

According to the Sun, Moss was allegedly quite drunk and started to get into it with another person at the event. Luckily, the situation de-escalated when Blige stepped in and settled things. It seems Blige truly wants no more drama.

8. Don't worry, the Kardashians are there.

Jenner's busy making appearances at various movie premieres, wearing socks with couture gowns and walking in the Fashion for Relief runway show.

If a Jenner shows up, that means a Kardashian or two is close behind. Indeed, Kourtney Kardashian has joined her sister in France, where the two have been enjoying their time on a yacht, naturally.

9. The Lupita Nyong'o and Rihanna movie bidding war

At the film festival, Netflix won the very heated bidding war over the Rihanna and Nyong'o buddy heist movie that began as a Twitter meme.

After an image of RiRi and Nyong'o sitting together at a 2014 Miu Miu fashion show went viral, Twitter created a fictional movie based on the photo — which ultimately became a real-life film project with both stars on board. Issa Rae is set to write the script and Ava DuVernay will direct.

This proves once and for all that Twitter makes dreams come true.

10. Susan Sarandon's breasts

There isn't really much to add. In a moment to remember, Sarandon owned the Cannes red carpet when she arrived in this plunging dress.

11. Sissy that walk, Julianne Moore.

No one does Cannes quite like the Oscar winner. In an Instagram video posted by the actress, Moore strutted her stuff at the festival in a stunning Givenchy Couture gown.
