Roger Moore: James Bond actor dead at 89

Roger Moore, the debonaire star of the James Bond franchise, has died, Variety reports. Moore, 89, was diagnosed with cancer. 

Moore played Bond for 13 years, between 1972 and 1985, and appeared in seven Bond films, including Octopussy, Live and Let Die and The Spy Who Loved Me. 

Moore's children released a statement announcing his death on Twitter. 

"The love with which he was surrounded in his final days was so great it cannot be quantified in words alone," the statement reads. "Thank you Pops for being you, and for being so very special to so many people."
