Cannes Film Festival has a dog award and the winners are so darn cute

Culture

Adam Sandler isn't the only actor earning high praise for his work in The Meyerowitz Stories. Bruno, a poodle who stars alongside Sandler, Ben Stiller and Dustin Hoffman in the Noah Baumbach flick, received a Palm Dog Award from the jury at Cannes after the film's debut at the festival. According to Guardian critic and Cannes jury member Peter Bradshaw, Bruno's performance represents "what some would say symbolizes the brutal submission to Republican domestic policy."

The second place dog prize, a.k.a. the grand jury prize, went to Lupo, a German shepherd who turned heads with his breakout performance in Ava. Lupo plays a dog who befriends a teenage girl as she is losing her sight.

Other awards included a Palm DogManitarian award for legendary An American in Paris star Leslie Caron and her 17-year-old rescue dog Tchi Tchi, as well as special jury prizes and palm dog collars for bomb sniffer dogs working to keep our countries free from terrorism. Robert Pattinson received a special mention for his acclaimed turn in Good Time, in which he tells a dog that he too was a dog in a previous life.

I think we can all agree that these are the cutest awards presented at Cannes.
