Poll: Americans trust Comey more than Trump by a nearly 2:1 margin

James Comey's testimony on Thursday against President Donald Trump resulted in both men decrying the other as a "liar" — but a new poll has revealed Americans are more likely to believe what the former FBI director has to say.

A Huffington Post/YouGov poll conducted on June 8 and 9 revealed that 46% of Americans consider Comey to be more "honest and trustworthy" than Trump.

On the other hand, only 26% believed Trump to be the more trustworthy one, the poll reported.

The results, however, were heavily divided along party lines. Republicans were far more in favor of Trump — 58% chose him as the more trustworthy pick — while 78% of Democrats put their trust in Comey.

According to the poll, a majority of Americans believe Comey's version of the events that transpired between him and Trump. Forty-two percent of those polled believe Trump ordered Comey to drop his investigation into Michael Flynn, and 50% believe the president asked Comey to pledge his loyalty.

Whomever they choose to believe, though, the revelations of Comey's Senate hearing might not be enough to change public opinion. The majority of those polled — 43% — said that after Thursday's hearing, their view of the Trump administration stayed exactly the same.
