New York 2012 Election Results LIVE: Who Won? #Obama

On Election Day Tuesday, voters all across the US will be deciding the next President of the United States.  

In New York, there will be 27 Congressional races. There are several major races to watch out for. Democratic Senator Kirsten Gillenbrand is up for re-election.  Peter King—the staunch and sometimes controversial Republican representing the 3nd Congressional District (Nassau County in Long Island) is running in an re-election bid.   Assemblywoman Grace Meng is running in her first Congressional race to represent the 6th Congressional District (Flushing and Bayside in Queens).  Some may know of her father, Assemblyman Jimmy Meng who was arrested in July over federal bribery charges. 

It all comes down to this night and it will be an exciting one!

Peter King -the very controversial Congressman and chairman of the House Homeland Security Committee is ahead of his opponent.

New York Democratic Senator Kirsten Gillenbrand wins her re-election bid at 65%! So far only 10.4% of votes are being reported in. Her opponent W.Long currently at 33.4%.

In the Congressional race, Grace Meng is at 72% and looks to be in a strong position to win the 6th district (Flushing/Bayside). She's an Assemblywoman and an early congradulations to her!

So, looks like Democrat is so far ahead to have control of Senate but Republicans may hold majority on the House.

9:51pm Richard Mourdock who was running for Indiana senator...has lost. If you'll remember, he made the following comment:

"I believe that life begins at conception. The only exception I have to have an abortion is in that case of the life of the mother. I just struggled with it myself for a long time, but I came to realize life is that gift from God -- that I think even if life begins in that horrible situation of rape, that it is something that God intended to happen."

And, here's why some politicians are seen as out of touch with the regular people. What do they think would happen making such uber-controversial statements?

New York has 29 electoral votes.

8:52pm As some of you may or may not know, there's been a few instances of 'voter-jumping' (where voters select one candidate but the opponent is marked on the electronic voting machines).

8:48pm As to the national election, Huffington Post has a count of the electoral votes for Obama at 79 to Romney's 82...Still pretty close.

8:44pm Since polls in New York don't close until 9pm, we won't hear for a short while the actual numbers. 

8:40pm Since New York is a solidly blue state, I don't really expect any major surprises and NY to go for the Obama vote.
