Mississippi Election Results: LIVE Updates and Results

Impact

Mississippi has not voted for a Democratic presidential candidate since 1976, and it doesn’t look like they’re going to start now. Real Clear Politics places it among the states considered “solidly” red. Recent polls indicate Mitt Romney leads President Barack Obama by 18% in the Magnolia State.

Mississippi has 6 electoral votes and 4 congressional districts.

Y’all Politics breaks down the general election by saying, “From a U.S. Senate and congressional delegation view, nothing will change. Mississippi will continue with Republicans in both Senate seats and in three of the four congressional districts.”

The Senate race between Roger Wicker, the Republican incumbent, and Albert Gore (D), no relation to the former vice president, is the most closely watched of this season. Wicker won the seat in question in 2008 from retiring senator, Trent Lott. Although Democrats were eager to take back the senate seat, they failed in ’08 and are likely to again.
