Why Vote Obama: A Look Forward to 2016 After an Obama Second Term

Impact

Today, Americans are going to the polls to decide who will be the next president of this great nation. Every four years we vote to elect the leader of the free world, and every four years  we all hear the that same mantra, “this is the most important election of our generation.” At 32, I obviously did not have the opportunity to vote for FDR or JFK or Reagan, transformational figures that changed our country for a generation. However, I believe that President Obama is the right choice for my generation and that this is our time and this is THE election that will decide what kind of country we will live in. To demonstrate this, let’s fast forward to November 2016, and take a look at what America would look like after an Obama second term.

The president continued his efforts at creating good paying sustainable jobs, and making it easier for small businesses to be successful and hire more workers. Therefore, unemployment has continued to decrease and the economy has maintained strong growth. The president worked with Congress to increase taxes on the wealthy, while making strategic cuts to entitlement programs to begin to pay down our national debt. Since the rich are paying their fair share, this has enabled the president to continue the Bush tax cuts and the payroll tax cuts for the middle class and small businesses strengthening our economy.

On the foreign policy front, President Obama fulfilled his pledge to pull all U.S. troops out of Afghanistan. Because the president kept his word, our troops are home with their families and not in harm’s way.  The sanctions the Obama administration and our international allies imposed on Iran have crippled the Iranian economy, bringing the Iranians to the table, where they decide for economic reasons, to give up their nuclear program averting additional confrontations in the Middle East and keeping Israel protected.

One or possibly two Supreme Court Justices have resigned, and President Obama continued his past performance of selecting moderate, intelligent, and qualified individuals that represent all Americans. Due to the president’s appointments, Roe vs. Wade is upheld, corporations who initially harm individuals are held accountable, and the fight to end discrimination against women and minorities is continued.

Lastly, because President Obama was reelected in 2012, every American has health care. Children and adults with preexisting diseases are still alive because they received the medical treatment they needed, students and young adults are on their parents insurance getting the medical attention they deserve, and Medicare is still funded due to the common sense cost saving measures enacted by Obamacare.

So when people say, “this is the most important election of our generation,” you can be assured it is. Whether it’s ending a war, choosing high-quality Supreme Court nominees, continuing to improve our economy, or upholding Obamacare, this is an important election and one that nobody should sit out. The decision that you make today will reverberate for many years to come.
