Georgia Election Results: Republicans Dominate in the South

Impact

No one doubted that Georgia would go to Romney. Georgia is a state with Democratic pockets, but an overwhelming Republican majority. That was exactly the way this election turned out. Incumbents easily won 12 of the 14 districts. The 13th is still in a competitive race, but Congressman Barrow looks like he will make his way back to the House of Representatives, leading 54-46 with only 28% of precincts left to report. Republicans add one seat because of a newly created district.

The constitutional amendments will both pass, making it odd to suggest that the status quo did not change.  But one of these proposals was largely procedural, while the other only continued to increase the state control of education.

As a whole though, neither party increased its average share of the voters or made great strides. The status quo prevailed.
