Oscars 2013: Early Predictions Show Lincoln Will Win Best Picture

Culture

Though the 85th annual Academy Awards nominations won't be announced until January 10, several films have already started to stir speculation of which actors, directors and producers will get the Oscar nod next year (the ceremony will be held on February 24, from the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, California).

And with the exception of the Best Actress award, which will probably go to Anne Hathaway for Les Miserables, expect a clean sweep by Steven Spielberg's Lincoln -- the epic biopic about the last days of President Abraham Lincoln and The Civil War.

There won't be enough Oscars for this movie, not only because of its overall quality — production, direction, acting, art direction, costumes ... everything screams little golden men statutes — but also because of the way it showcases an American historical period with eerie similarities to the current one.

The Best Actor award will undoubtedly go to Daniel Day-Lewis for his amazing portrayal of the 16th President of the United States. The Best Supporting Actor should go to Tommy Lee Jones, though there's a possibility that several actors from the same film will compete in the same category (such is the amount of quality in this movie). If this is the case, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, who plays Lincoln’s son, could be another candidate to snatch the award.
