Michael Jackson Bad 25: Spike Lee Documentary Celebrates 25 Years of Bad

Thursday night, as the moaning and groaning from the over-eating of turkey begins, Spike Lee's newest film will be hitting airwaves. The much anticipated documentary, Bad 25, details the production of Michael Jackson's album Bad, released 25 years ago, and the subsequent tour that followed.

Bad was the legendary album that sold more than 45,000,000 copies and launched some of Jackson's most enduring hits; "Smooth Criminal," "Bad," "Way You Make Me Feel," "Man in the Mirror." 

Ripe with footage of Jackson in his prime, the documentary also boasts extensive interviews with those who worked with him, were close to him, and shared the stage with him. Martin Scorsese, who directed Jackson in the 18-minute short film Bad, is interviewed extensively as is Sheryl Crow who worked as a back up singer on Jackson's tours. 

From the review of the film by Jeannette Catsoulis and featured in the New York Times it appears that Lee paints the portrait of a perfectionist, much like the image of Jackson that was carefully constructed in the 2009 film This Is It, which followed the preparations being made for the tour Jackson was working on at the time of his death. 

As Catsoulis writers of Bad 25, "Spike Lee assembles a fond and meticulously detailed mosaic of a perfectionist at work." 

The documentary airs on ABC Thursday at 9:30 p.m. ET.
