50 Shades of Grey Movie Cast: Henry Cavill as Christian Grey

Henry Cavill, the star of the upcoming Christopher Nolan-produced Man of Steel, finally addressed the ongoing rumors about playing Christian Grey, the male lead in the film version of E.L. James' novel Fifty Shades of Grey.

"Whether that happens, that decision will be made at the time it has to be made," Cavill told Details magazine. "[Though] it would be a very different kind of thing than Man of Steel," he added.

The English actor, known in the U.S. for Showtime's The Tudors, is just one of the stars whose names have been tossed around since last summer, when online reports surfaced that a movie version of the popular novel was in the works. Other potential candidates would include The Notebook's Ryan Gosling and White Collar's Matt Bomer.

But Cavill is one of the audience's favorites to play the BDSM-leaning CEO and philanthropist, as he is supposedly the prototype for the E.L. James' popular fictional character. However, whether the new "Superman" will be the chosen one it remains to be seen. Cavill has a story of being favored for iconic movie roles, only to be dropped at the last minute (he was supposed to play Batman in The Dark Knight Rises, as well as James Bond in Casino Royale).
