Star Trek Into Darkness Movie Poster: Gary Mitchell Looks Like the DKR

Culture

Star Trek Into Darkness, written by Damon Lindelof, Alex Kurtzman & Roberto Orci and directed by J.J. Abrams, is scheduled for release on May 17, 2013 -- according to The Daily Blam!

And, according to EW, Paramount recently unveiled the first theatrical poster for the movie which they describe as an "evocative image [that] has a decidedly gritty Earthly vibe." The picture shows the back of a "Neo-garbed" Benedict Cumberbatch, "emerging unscathed from urban destruction ... and looking out towards a futuristic metropolis."

However, some of fans of the franchise -- along with MTV -- believe the poster resembles Christopher Nolan's the Dark Knight Rises. This fact has been noted by many on Twitter, and it seems to be gaining traction through the social networks and the blogosphere.

But, whether this resemblance will stop millions of Star Trek fans from flocking to theaters on May 17 for the 3D theatrical release it remains to be seen. Poster controversies aside, there is a lot to look forward to going into Star Trek's next installment -- from the return of Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Karl Urban, John Cho, Bruce Greenwood, Simon Pegg, Zoë Saldana, and Anton Yelchin as the crew of the U.S.S. Enterprise. They'll also be joined by new cast members Benedict Cumberbatch, Alice Eve and Peter Weller.
