Zero Dark Thirty Movie Release Date: Bin Laden Film Gets Oscar Boost Ahead of Premiere

The New York Film Critics Circle selected Kathryn Bigelow's Zero Dark Thirty as the year's 'Best Picture,' according to Los Angeles Times

The award boosts the chances of the controversial 'Osama Bin Laden movie' going into the 2013 awards ceremony where the film — about "the greatest manhunt for the world's most dangerous man" — will stand a good chance of defeating other heavy weights such as Steven Spielberg's Lincoln and Ben Affleck's Argo

According to EW, the movie became controversial, even before it was shot, as government and military documents — posted back in August by the conservative watchdog group Judicial Watch — claimed that director Kathryn Bigelow and producer-screenwriter Mark Boal were given special access to classified information.

This, in turn, produced a Republican outcry that claimed President Obama had commissioned a "Bin Laden movie" with the purpose of being released before the election and cast the administration in a positive light. However, as we all know by now, the supposed stunt was not necessary.

Watch the trailer. Do you think the movie would have helped Obama if released before the election?
