J. J. Abrams' Star Trek Into Darkness, the 12th installment of the Star Trek film series and sequel to 2009's Star Trek, will not premiere until May 17, 2013, but it already has set the internet on fire.

And now, Paramount Pictures is fanning the flames with the just released teaser trailer, narrated by Benedict Cumberbatch, a.k.a. 'The Villain,' "an unstoppable force of terror from within their own organization"(according to the film's synopsis), who voice overs the trailer in an ominous and totally awesome tone:

"You think your world is safe. It is an illusion [...] a comforting lie told to protect you. Enjoy these final moments of peace for I have returned to have my vengeance,” is what opens the teaser while — according to the NYDN — "the iconic Star Trek space vessel is seen slamming into the bay outside Star Fleet's San Francisco headquarters."

Star Trek Into Darkness stars Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Karl Urban, Zoe Saldana, Anton Yelchin, Simon Pegg and John Cho.
