Impact

A 15-year-old from Oregon is surviving a close encounter with death for a second time this year, reported NBC News.

Kristina Shevchenko was one of the victims of a Tuesday shooting at a shopping center in suburban Portland, Oregon. According to NBC News, the teenager was "rushed to a hospital [...] in critical condition after a masked gunman sprayed bullets around [...] during the height of holiday shopping season."

And brave Shevchenko underwent surgery, after which she was upgraded from critical to stable condition —-- according to a statement from her family reported by NBC News

The shooting came just months after Shevchenko and her family had suffered another tragedy: what NBC News describes as "a head-on car crash," where the Shevchenko family were the survivors "of a fatal collision."
