4 Cartoons That Will Make You Feel Like a Kid Again

With the holidays just around the corner, it’s natural to want to be a kid again; and nothing is more kid-like than watching cartoons. While you can find your old favorites online, you shouldn’t just have to re-watch old episodes of Arthur or Sailor Moon.

1) Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (Nickelodeon)

A show that recognizes just how cheesy the entire premise of mutated turtles becoming ninjas really is, Nickelodeon’s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles abandons the seriousness of the 2007 movie and creates a show with fantastic fight animations, constant pop culture references, and humor that both adults and children can enjoy. When the previews first came out, I lambasted the show; I now eat my words and officially surrender to Turtle Power.

2) Phineas and Ferb (Disney)

A tale that really shows the power of imagination, Phineas and Ferb tells the story of two brothers that spend their summer constantly building inventions of gigantic proportions, only to lose them so perfectly by the end that their older sister can’t even bust them for making a submarine or giving a monkey a shower. Understanding the value of subtle jokes and running gags, this show really is fun for all ages. And their pet platypus is really a secret agent fighting against Dr. Doofenshmirtz Evil Incorporated. Yes, Doofenshmirtz Evil Incorporated.  

You simply don’t get much more subtly mature than this. The Looney Tunes Show is a modern day retelling of the classic show, with a decidedly sitcom feel to it. Bugs Bunny, now a millionaire after inventing the carrot peeler, lives in the suburbs with his perpetually unemployed friend Daffy. Their neighbors include the gun-toting Yosemite Sam, pizzeria owner Speedy Gonzales, and lovably pathetic Porky Pig. Now having to deal with everything from girlfriend troubles, to their cable getting cut, to Porky being yelled at in court for not wearing pants, Bugs and Daffy truly are in the modern world.     

4) Regular Show (Cartoon Network)

The story of a raccoon and a blue jay that work in a park for a gumball machine. The only thing more insane than the premise of Regular Show is the actual show itself. Mordecai and Rigby, our protagonists, toil at their workplace alongside a “high-fiving” ghost and a workout freak whose idea of insulting people is to say “My mom!” in response to anything. The story always throws sense out of the window and just has a good time; it can hopefully help you do the same.
