What's Happened to Hoya Basketball?

Culture

Since making it to the Final Four in 2007, the Hoyas have been ousted in the first round of the NCAA and NIT tournaments in three consecutive seasons. Once a top program, Georgetown basketball is now in a slump.

Georgetown's recruiting record has been mediocre, and the Hoyas no longer seem to attract top talent, as they had with NBA superstars Patrick Ewing and Dikembe Mutombo.

More recently, Georgetown basketball got a literal black eye as the team was involved in an on-the-court melee with the Bayi Military Rockets in an exhibition game in China in August.

The Hoyas received no votes in the ESPN/USA Today pre-season top-25 rankings. Four other Big East teams are included in the top 15.

How can Georgetown basketball again be an elite program? Should this become a more central focus for the university?
