Where to watch New Year's Eve online for free: Here at PolicyMic!

A lot of people try to make it to New York City to watch the ball drop in person, but that’s impractical for virtually everyone who can’t afford to drop a lot of money traveling, lodging, eating and drinking in the metro area. If you don’t have access to a TV, you can still watch the ball drop online for free – we have it embedded right here on this very page (though it won't be running live footage until Monday). But here are some other options:

On the Times Square website, you can watch the stream we have embedded above. Watch for updates to that page as we get closer to the 31st.

ABC will be streaming Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rocking Eve with Ryan Seacrest 2013 on their website beginning at 8:00 PM EST on Monday as well.

The Ball Drop will be televised on ABC and NBC. Beginning in 2009, the organizers of the event – Times Square Alliance – began producing their own live stream of the event hosted by Livestream, which also features viewer contributions submitted via social media.
