Are Theaters, Restaurants, and Stores Open in Times Square on New Year's?

Culture

The normal hustle and bustle of Times Square will be supplanted by the New Year’s revelry. Expect higher food and ticket costs in the area, as well as some door fees.

As reported on the Times Square Alliance's site:

"Some Broadway theaters will be open on New Year's Eve. The TKTS booth will open on New Year's Eve. Please check the TKTS website for the schedule of hours. You can check the schedules for Broadway and some Off Broadway shows at www.telecharge.com or www.ticketmaster.com. Stores and restaurants will be open at their own discretion, so please call them ahead of time. Please remember that if you leave your viewing area to dine in a restaurant, you will not be able to return to your spot in a viewing area."

What restaurants/hotels in Times Square will give you the best view of the Ball? The Renaissance New York, the R Lounge, the DoubleTree Guest Suites, the Marriott Marquis, the Bubba Gump Shrimp Company, the Times Square Olive Garden, and the Novotel New York Times Square all have views of the NYE spectacular. Note for revelers: Many of these locales will likely have steep entrance, food, and service charges. It has been reported that the Olive Garden, for instance, is charging $300 just to enter the restaurant.

New York Show Tickets outlines the Times Square hotels where you can comfortably watch the ball drop:

"Hotels in Times Square offer a limited amount of guestrooms and suites facing the action so it’s important to book early or get on a waiting list if possible. The W Hotel offers several package stays and offers event spaces for rent while the Doubletree Guest Suites Times Square has 40 suites available and no hotel parties in their event spaces. The guestrooms at Renaissance New York Hotel Times Square may not have views of the ball drop but it does host a party with excellent panoramic views from its onsite restaurant and lounge. New York Marriott Marquis Hotel offers 100 guestrooms with ball drop views and a bar and lounge that hosts a party."

Please check dining and hotels pages for contact information for the above venues.
