Kim Kardashian Baby: Kanye West and America's Favorite Reality Star Expecting

Impact

As 2012 is coming to an end, the biggest celebrity news story is exploding all over social media. Reality TV star Kim Kardashian and rapper boyfriend Kanye West are expecting their first child. Another baby will join America’s big and favorite reality television family, but why do so many Americans care so much? The Kardashian phenomenon can be explained through their efforts to redefine the American family.

Kanye West broke the baby news during his concert in Atlantic City last night. The rapper incorporated the announcement when singing, “Now you having my baby” to more than 5,000 people in the crowd.

Kim Kardashian confirmed her pregnancy on her website. In her post, titled “New Year, New Beginnings” Kardashian can barely contain her excitement on the news:

“It’s true!! Kanye and I are expecting a baby. We feel so blessed and lucky and wish that in addition to both of our families, his mom and my dad could be here to celebrate this special time with us. Looking forward to great new beginnings in 2013 and to starting a family. Happy New Year!!! Xo.”

Other Kardashian family members shared in the excitement. Kourtney Kardashian tweeted, "Another angel to welcome to our family. Overwhelmed with excitement!"

Khloe Kardashian’s husband Lamar Odom also took to twitter:

“I'm excited for Kanye and my sister! There's nothing like bringing life into this world! Let's keep Gods blessings coming!”

Kim Kardashian has had quiet the year. Kim and Kanye went public with their relationship in March 2012 after excessive rumors that the two were an item. Kardashian was and is still faced with her infamous 72-day marriage to NBA player Kris Humphries. The two married in August 2011, and the divorce still has yet to be finalized.

So why is the newest Kardashian baby receiving so much attention? The season finale of the seventh season of Keeping up with the Kardashians received over 3.6 million viewers on September 16, 2012, making the event one of the top 25 most watched programs on the E! network.

One thing is definitely clear. The Kardashian family is famous for being famous. Whether it be that a Kardashian sister is in the face of a sex tape scandal, a marriage or baby announcement, Americans love to follow their outrageous personal lives. Americans love a good show, and the Kardashians suffice American’s guilty pleasure of dramatized celebrity news.
