Obama's fiscal cliff statements blame Republicans, build support from Democrats

Impact

We are so used to seeing the Republicans wipe out deals that we sometimes need a reminder that Democrats can do exactly the same thing.  President Obama came out swinging on Monday afternoon, delivering remarks in what felt like a pep rally speech.

Rumors were swirling that Obama would deliver a statement outlining a deal on the fiscal cliff talks, but that was anything but true as he continued to emphasize compromise in creating a "balanced approach" for all Americans.

Obama's speech seemed an attempt to place blame on the Republican-leaning Congress for delaying to come up with a solution to avert the fiscal cliff, while at the same time win support for the tentative deal from liberal congressional Democrats.
