Chuck Hagel Secretary of Defense Nomination LIVE: Obama Nominates Republican Senator
President Barack Obama is expected to nominate former Republican Party senator Chuck Hagel to replace Leon Panetta as his second term Secretary of Defense at 1:00 PM EST, live here.
The White House has dismissed GOP criticism of both Hagel’s qualifications and anti-gay statements he made in 1998. The President is also widely expected to nominate counter-terrorism advisor John Brennan to replace Gen. David Petraeus as the director of the CIA, following Petraeus’s resignation after an FBI investigation implicated him in an illicit affair and accidental leakage of confidential information.
