Oscars Nominations 2013 LIVE: Academy Awards Announcements As They Happen

Culture

The Academy Awards won't take place until February 24, but this Thursday the wait for the nominees will finally be over. On January 10, host Seth MacFarlane and actress Emma Stone will take the stage to announce this year's crop of nominees.

The 2013 nominee pool is ripe with contenders. Many believe that Steven Spielberg's Lincoln will be the biggest nominee of the year, with Daniel Day-Lewis a near shoe-in for the Best Actor award. Other Oscar followers are putting their money on Kathryn Bigelow's highly controversial Zero Dark Thirty as the year's big winner.

As of 2011, thanks to changes in Academy rules, the Best Picture category can include anywhere from five to ten films — as long as the film earns 5% of first-place votes during the nomination process. With ten possible nominations in the Best Picture category, there is room for a whole lot of nominees.

PolicyMic will be updating LIVE with up-to-the-minute updates on the nominees and the 2013 Academy Awards.
