People's Choice Awards 2013: Sandra Bullock Honored as Favorite Humanitarian

Culture

Favorite Humanitarian??

How does one pick such a thing? I did not know when I grew up that I could choose to be a "humanitarian." How do you get to do that?

I decided to look up the definition, in order to find out what exactly such a job entailed.

hu·man·i·tar·i·an  (hy-mn-târ-n)

n.

One who is devoted to the promotion of human welfare and the advancement of social reforms; a philanthropist.

adj.

Of, relating to, or characteristic of a humanitarian or humanitarianism. See Synonyms at humane.

Ah, so in order to be a humanitarian it helps to have something to give away, like A LOT OF MONEY.

Let me be honest with you, if Sandra Bullock were NOT a humanitarian it would be a crime.  The woman is richer than god.  I go to New Orleans a fair amount (I used to own a bar, now I just drink in them) and I happened (I wasn't stalking, I swear) to walk by her house.  IT'S MASSIVE. I mean, god bless her and good for her and all that, but clearly the hard working gal can afford to have you, me, and the entire staff of Policymic over for a long weekend or twelve.

I am glad she is helping the schools of New Orleans, however. Let me tell you, that town has some serious poverty, for all of it's cultural wealth. So she is doing good for a place where she has had a lot of fun.

I wish we could all do the same.

IMHO, if you gave five bucks and a hug to a homeless person on the street, YOU get the award for MY favorite humanitarian!

(I bet you are wondering if I am going to be this bitchy all day.  The answer is yes.)
