Jyoti Singh Pandey: Lawyer Makes Case For Police Corruption in Rape Case

In this issue of "Stupid Things People Will Say About Rape And The Nation They Embarass," Manohar Lal Sharma becomes one of the few lawyers in the Delhi Bar Association willing to touch this case because of public outrage and DNA evidence.

“Until today I have not seen a single incident or example of rape with a respected lady,” Sharma points out in sage-like fashion outside of the court complex in Delhi. Court proceedings have been closed to the public due to media frenzy and an anticipated surge in violence of protests. Part of his clients' defense includes playing into well-founded fears of police corruption and loose interpretations of procedures, as Sharma claims torture of his clients and evidence tampering.
