Bowe Cleveland: Taft School Shooting Victim in Induced Coma

Impact

As partial results of Adam Lanza's autopsy show that there was nothing "unusual" with the brain of the 20-year-old Sandy Hook Elementary school shooter who killed 20 children and 8 adults — including his mother and self — in the horrific December 14 Newtown, Connecticut, massacre are revealed, another school shooting tragedy is unfolding (this time in California).

According to KTLA, families in the Taft Union High School community in southern California "are doing their best" to support 16-year-old Bowe Cleveland who was shot in the chest and abdomen by a still unidentified fellow classmate who claims he was bullied by Cleveland.

Parents, students, and school administrators led a community rally and vigil on Friday January 11, and — as of Saturday morning — the victim was in a medically induced coma and on life support. The teen suspect is currently under custody.

Taft Union High School Science teacher Ryan Heber was hailed a hero after he courageously confronted the gunman, talking him into surrendering his gun while helping evacuate 28 terrified students. "I don't want to shoot you," the teen gunman reportedly told Heber.

Heber and campus supervisor Kim Lee Fields helped prevent another potential school shooting massacre thanks to their intervention. "This teacher and this counselor stood there face-to-face not knowing if he was going to shoot them," said Kern County Sheriff Donny Youngblood. "They probably expected the worst and hoped for the best, but they gave the students a chance to escape," he added according to ABC News
