Golden Globes 2013: Why Django Unchained Should Win More Awards

Culture

"Django Unchained has been nominated for 5 Golden Globe awards:

Best Motion Picture: The Weinstein Company

Best Supporting Actor(s): Leonardo DiCaprio and Christoph Waltz

Best Director: Quentin Tarantino

Best Screenplay-Motion Picture: Quentin Tarantino

It isn't as if the other actors or films are of lesser quality, it is the power of this film that makes it stand out over all the others. Certainly, it has upset a few people, but if you watch Django Unchained and are not upset I would say there is something wrong with you.

It is the first film about racism where the victims become the heroes based on their own actions, not by being "saved" by someone else. Yes, Django is liberated initially by a white man, but his actions every second after that are the actions of a man who is saving himself, step by step, though conscious choice.

It is a little odd that neither Jamie Foxx or Samuel L Jackson were nominated, as I think their performances were incredible. The fact that all of the nominees for a film about racism are white, is indeed, a bit unsettling.

Stiil, I think Django Unchained is one of the most important films of the year, and I would be very surprised if the Hollywood Foriegn Press doesn't recognize that.
