Anonymous Hacks MIT Over Reddit Co-Founder Aaron Swartz's Suicide

Hacktivist group Anonymous hacked the Massachusetts Institute of Technology sites to post a memorial on behalf of Reddit co-founder, RSS co-creator and internet freedom activist Aaron Swartz — reported The Guardian

The message reportedly called for "an overhaul of US computer crime laws," though it stopped short of blaming MIT for Swartz' alleged suicide. Anonymous called, however, Swartz's prosecution a "gross miscarriage of justice" (prosecutors say Swartz illegally downloaded millions of scientific journals from MIT and JSTOR, an academic journal storage repository).

Anonymous also called for reform of copyright and intellectual property law as well as a "free and unfettered internet."

"We call for this tragedy to be a basis for a renewed and unwavering commitment to a free and unfettered internet, spared from censorship with equality of access and franchise for all," the post said.
