Alex Jones Circulates Petition Urging Rep. Steve Stockman to Impeach Obama

Noted conspiracy theorist and unfortunate Piers Morgan guest Alex Jones has been making waves lately by circulating an article urging Rep. Steve Stockman of Texas to file articles of impeachment against President Obama.

Jones claims that the president has committed so many violations of (his) interpretation of the Constitution that the only thing left for Americans is to impeach the president. According to Jones, “every freedom is under sustained assault,” so we must “remove the would-be dictator.”

To Jones, all citizens have a clear directive: “Stand up to evil or get on your knees as a willing slave.”

Rep. Stockman factors into the picture thanks to his recent opposition to President Obama’s proposed use of executive orders to manage some facets of gun policy following the Sandy Hook Elementary School shootings on December 15. Critics feared that the president would seek to ban guns by reclassifying them as destructive devices which could be restricted under the 1934 National Firearms Act.

Those fears proved groundless, and the executive orders under consideration by Obama are rather mundane, and include restricting imports of foreign guns, directing federal agencies to share information on the mentally ill, ordering the CDC to study gun violence, and increase criminal prosecutions of those caught lying on a gun permit. All of these are directives which fall in line with the enforcement of laws on the books: the White House is apparently happy to let more controversial measures, such as an assault weapons ban and restriction on magazine size, pass through Congress.

Stockman, however, remains opposed to all executive orders on guns.

“I will seek to thwart this action by any means necessary, including but not limited to eliminating funding for implementation, defunding the White House, and even filing articles of impeachment,” said Stockman.

“Any proposal to abuse executive power and infringe upon gun rights must be repelled with the stiffest legislative force possible,” Stockman continued. “Under no circumstances whatsoever may the government take any action that disarms any peaceable person — much less without due process through an executive declaration without a vote of Congress or a ruling of a court.”

“If the president is allowed to suspend constitutional rights on his own personal whims, our free republic has effectively ceased to exist,” he added.

Stockman’s views have electrified a range of far-right conspiracy theorists who see the president as the tool of a dystopian new world order, who finally see a path forward for the impeachment and removal of Obama.

Here’s a quick recap of the actions Jones alleges are impeachable offenses committed by the President, noting that many of these accusations are inaccurate or portrayed through a survivalist fantasy lens where anything disagreeable the president does is suddenly a criminal violation of the limits of his office:

- Clearly communicating his intent to “eviscerate the Second Amendment” by threatening to use executive orders to impose gun control.

- Aiding Syrian rebels who are being commanded by Al-Qaeda, violating his Oath of Office.

- Violating federal law by commanding a cover-up of Operation Fast and Furious, in which the Justice Department gave guns to Mexican drug cartels.

- Lying to the American people in “Obama’s Watergate” by covering up the Benghazi attack which killed four Americans.

- Attacking Libya without prior authorization from the United States Congress while insisting his authority came from the United Nations Security Council, an impeachable offense according to GOP Congressman Walter Jones.

- Violating article 1, section 9, clause 8 of the Constitution by accepting a title of nobility – a rotating status as chairman of the United Nations Security Council – without the consent of Congress.

- After the GOP blocked cybersecurity laws pushed by the White House from passing through Congress, the president indicated he would push some of the provisions by executive order.

- Signed the National Defense Authorization Act, which Jones says gives the president the power to arrest and militarily detain American citizens in violation of Habeas Corpus.

- Enacted universal health care mandates (the Affordable Care Act/ Obamacare) which are clear violations of the Constitution.

- Declaring war on the American economy by saying his cap-and-trade plan would bankrupt anyone building a new coal plant, while promoting “unconstitutional” EPA regulations.

- Violated the Constitution’s Takings and Due Process Clause by bullying the secured creditors of Chrysler into accepting 30 cents on the dollar during the auto bailout.

- Violated Article II of the Constitution by using signing statements.

No word yet on who can replace President Obama in a way that would satisfy Jones’ no doubt stringent qualifications for office.
