Mad Men Season 6 Premiere Date: All the Details On Don Draper's April 7 Return

Although award ceremonies seem to be losing their taste for the AMC hit Mad Men, audiences are still fully committed to the television drama. The fifth season of the show ended last June with looming ambiguity and endless questions about what the future holds for Don Draper, Peggy Olson, and the rest of the crew. News broke this morning that the answers to these questions will begin to be answered during the Season 6 premiere on April 7 at 9 p.m. 

The premiere will be a special two-hour affair; also noteworthy due to its status as penultimate premiere, the show is set to end after Season 7. The premiere will be written by the show's creator Matthew Weiner and directed by executive producer Scott Horbacher. The April 14 episode will be directed by none other than Jon Hamm. 

In an interview with the New York Times Weiner was reluctant to give specifics about the coming season. He did not confirm what year the season will be set in, though he did express a hope that Season 6 would connect with the "cultural psyche" of the year it is set in as the show was able to do in Season 5 through references to true events like the Richard Speck murders and the tower shooting by Charles Whitman. 

Following the season premiere, Mad Men will return to its regular 10 p.m. timeslot. Weiner said in a statement, "To be able to continue exploring the stories of these characters for a sixth season is an amazing opportunity. We love mining this world and look forward to bringing the audience stories that we hope will continue to both surprise and entertain them."
