Benghazi Timeline: Hillary Clinton Gives Her Timeline of Events at Benghazi Testimony

Impact

Secretary of State Hillary of Clinton gives her timeline of events surrounding Benghazi:

Clinton says she was notified of the attack at 4 p.m. on September 11, 2012.

She spoke with security personnel and told them to consider every option, "break down the doors of Libyan officials," to get as much security support as possible.

Tom Donilon, the national security adviser, was her first call.

Clinton spoke with Petraeus, then director of the CIA, which had its own, "not well known" facility, to make sure they were coordinated, said Clinton.

She called the Libyan president to get more support.

"We were going over every possible option...any actions we could take. Reaching out to everyone we could find to get an update about Ambassador Chris Stevens," said Clinton.

She spoke with President Obama later that evening.

On September 12, Clinton again spoke with National Security Adviser Tom Donilon.

"The two hardest calls I made were to the families of Sean Smith and Ambassador Stevens. They were extraordinary in their responses, in their understanding of the pride we had in both men and the gratitude we had for their service," said Clinton.

"I would quickly add, while this was going on, and we were trying to understand it and get on top of it, there were protests...putting our facilities at risk [around the world]."
