Grammy Awards 2013 LIVE: An In-Depth Look at the Biggest Night in Music

Culture

Here we are, about to start the 55th annual Grammy Awards. This year's award show, the second with their newly paired down list of categories, is filled with excitement and intrigue in almost every category. For starters, who is Al Walser and has anyone ever heard of "I Can't Live Without You"? Even Billboard shook their head at this one.

Another exciting category to look at is Best New Artist. Between these five nominees, the Recording Academy would be hard pressed to make a bad decision. Frank Ocean may have put out the best album of the year in Channel Orange; fun. has taken over the airwaves and has turned into one of the biggest pop acts around; The Lumineers just finished a performance on Saturday Night Live; and my personal favorite The Alabama Shakes have taken the notion of internet buzz-band to a whole new stratosphere as seen by their run at CMJ.

The Grammys are the biggest night in music and performers from all genres come out to perform. Elton John will be back on the show, where he will perform twice. The first time with Ed Sheeran, and the second time as a tribute to Levon Helm where he will be performing with Zac Brown, Brittany Howard of the Alabama Shakes, Mavis Staples, who performed at The Last Waltz concert, and Mumford & Sons. Elton John's performances at the Grammys have been some of the most memorable moments as one has to think back to his 2006 appearance with Eminem, which can be seen below.

In other categories, The Black Keys, fun., Mumford & Sons, Frank Ocean, and Jack White duke it out for Album of the Year.  Mumford & Sons, Frank Ocean, fun., Jay-Z, Kanye West, and Dan Auerbach each received six nominations, and it will be interesting to see how many awards they each haul in as they are competing against one another in a number of categories.

Be sure to tune into the show at 8 p.m. eastern on Sunday, Feb. 10 for the LL Cool J hosted show and remember to keep this page refreshed as I provide my occassionally interesting commentary on the biggest winners and losers of the night.
