Best Grammy Performances Of 2013: 5 Best Performances Of the Night

Culture

The 55th annual Grammy Awards offered a night that paid homage to both youth and blues. The Black Keys, and their front man Dan Auerbach, were the night's biggest winners taking home four of the coveted trophies. British folk-rock group Mumford & Sons also put their name on the scoreboard taking home the night's biggest honor Album of the Year for Babel.

Other big winners of the night included Gotye (three awards) and Fun., who took home the always competitive award for Best New Artist. Other three-time winners of the night included Jay-Z, Kanye West, and Skrillex.

But winners and losers aside, the most memorable moments of the Grammy Awards are always the performances, and 2013 was no exception. The night's best performances were unexpected collaborations of old and new with rock royalty Elton John sharing the stage with newcomer Ed Sheeran, and Sting teaming up with Bruno Mars and Rihanna.

Even when old and young acts were not sharing the stage physically there was the constant presence of music from year's gone by. Justin Timberlake paid homage to 1940s swing style in his performance of "Suit and Tie" alongside his band equipped with art deco stands reading "JT and the Tennessee Kids." Kelly Clarkson also paid homage to stars of the past singing numbers by Patti Page and Carol King.

A few moments of fantastic modernity did creep in, most notably with the performance by Wiz Khalifa and Miguel. Check out the five best performances of the night below.

1. Elton John, Elton John, Zac Brown, members of Mumford & Sons, Mavis Staples and Brittany Howard of the Alabama Shakes.
