Rand Paul State of the Union

Impact

The Tea Party response to President Barack Obama's 2013 State of the Union address will be delivered by Senator Rand Paul (R-Ky.), the libertarian-oriented son of 2012 unsuccessful presidential candidate and Congressman Ron Paul (R-Texas). Paul was elected as Kentucky's junior senator in 2010 — with support from a Tea Party fueled by the 2009 passing of Obama's health reform — and is mentioned as a potential candidate for the 2016 presidential election. However, Paul will share the spotlight with another Tea Party darling; Senator Marco Rubio (R-Fla.), another potential 2016 presidential candidate who will be delivering the Republican Party's official response to Obama's SOTU in a historical bilingual speech delivered live in English and pre-recorded in Spanish.
