Obama Address LIVE-Stream and Live Blog

Impact

At 9 pm (EST) President Obama will give the first State of the Union address of his second term. In his speech, Obama will review the accomplishments of his administration and outline his vision going forward for the next four years. Ultimately, however, the speech is largely a rhetorical spectacle, carrying almost no policy significance whatsoever. Nothing novel is unlikely to be unveiled tonight. And if by some off chance something is, the reaction on the left and right will be quite predictable. Democrats will react to the speech gleefully, and describe the address using words like, "bold," "visionary," and "outstanding." Republicans will pan the speech using words like "lackluster," "wrong-headed," and "redistributionist." But at the end of the day, listening to Obama's speech and Senator Marco Rubio's (R-Fla.) GOP response to it, will be as exciting as watching grass grow.
