Christopher Dorner Supporters Like Columbia Professor Marc Lamont Hill Are Hypocrites

In the wake of former LAPD officer Christopher Dorner's shooting spree, fans have emerged for Dorner's peculiar brand of vigilante justice. Huffington Post Live host and Columbia University professor Marc Lamont Hill told CNN that Dorner's fans were "rooting for somebody who was wronged to get a kind of revenge against the system. It’s almost like watching Django Unchained in real life. It’s kind of exciting."

Last August, in the wake of the Aurora, Colorado theater and Wisconsin Sikh Temple shootings, Hill wrote, "The mental health problem is exacerbated by the fact that we have such easy access to guns. In Pennsylvania, gun-show sales and straw purchases continue to funnel illegal guns into the hands of dangerous people. Also, we fail to evaluate mental health as part of the gun application process." Only two weeks before writing this article, Hill hosted a debate on gun control in which he argued that restrictive gun laws would unfairly target black people.

Hill seemed to have no trouble identifying the perpetrators of last summer's killings as mentally ill. He doesn't seem to think that Dorner may have also had mental health struggles, such as depression after losing his job, or possibly a personality disorder.

He completely ignores the first step in Christopher Dorner's "exciting" Django-style revenge: lying in wait in an Irvine, California parking garage and gunning down an innocent, unarmed couple in their vehicle.

In 2010, Hill clearly opposed gun control for black people, writing of the Second Amendment right to bear arms, "For Blacks, who have never received the full protection of the State, such a right must be viewed as an indispensable nonnegotiable component of complete citizenship." Hill even added that gun control efforts were aimed at disarming Black citizens, saying that high tariffs and restrictive gun laws "rendered Blacks even more vulnerable to state sponsored forms of terrorism, abuse, and exploitation."

Is there any room in Hill's world to question that possibly, Christopher Dorner is the same type of mentally deranged spree killer as Aurora shooter James Holmes and Sikh temple killer Wade Michael Page? Probably not.

Hill is an Ivy League academic who writes articles for the Huffington Post about the "15 Most Overrated White People." In case you might have thought this would be a politically-oriented list, Hill features the National Hockey League, Elvis Presley, Justin Bieber, two members of the British royal family, Babe Ruth, and Tim Tebow.

Rather than being a defender of his race like Django, Christopher Dorner was a hate-filled killer. His first victims were 28-year-old Asian-American basketball coach Monica Quan, and 27-year-old college police officer Keith Lawrence, a black man. These were revenge killings, not against LAPD officers, but on the attorney who failed to exonerate Dorner of the charges that led to his termination from the LAPD.

There's a word for Dorner and his manifesto as compared to his actions, as well as for Marc Lamont Hill: hypocrisy.
