Oscars 2013 LIVE Blog: Live Stream, Nominees, and All the Updates

Culture

Let's get the show on the road! The 85th Academy Awards are this Sunday, February 24th and this will be your guide to the Oscars, so tune in, grab some snacks, make some bets, and see what the biggest awards show in the USA is all about. No, not the Razzies, I mean the Academy Awards.

I'll provide a live feed to watch the ceremony on Sunday , but that doesn't mean we can't already start talking about it right now. The host will be Seth McFarlane of Family Guy, American Dad, and Ted fame. McFarlane's Ted is also a nominee for Best Original Song.

The nominees will be competing in 24 different categories.

Those categories are: Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actor, Best Actress, Best Supporting Actor, Best Supporting Actress, Best Writing-Original Screenplay, Best Writing-Adapted Screenplay, Best Animated Feature, Best Foreign Film, Best Documentary-Feature, Best Documentary-Short Subject, Best Live Action Short Film, Best Animated Short Film, Best Original Score, Best Original Song, Best Sound Editing, Best Sound Mixing, Best Production Design, Best Cinematography, Best Makeup and Hairstyling, Best Costume Design, Best Film Editing, and Best Visual Effects.

In case you are still awake after reading that brick of a list, the most hyped categories are at the beginning of the list, and the most technical categories are at the end. The most technical categories are known for including mainstream films that are good and popular, but probably stand no chance of winning (see Marvel's The Avengers). Here in this blog, even the often-ignored categories will get some love (unlike Seth McFarlane).

First up, Best Visual Effects.
