Google Chromebook Pixel Release Date and Price: Available Now For $1,299

Culture

Google has just announced the release of its Chromebook Pixel, the latest device in its Chromebook lineup, aimed at "power users who fully live in the cloud" — according to TechCrunch

The basic Wi-Fi version of the Pixel is now available on Google Play for $1,299, and will soon be at select Best Buy locations. The $1,499 LTE version will ship in the U.S. in April (the difference between the LTE and Wi-Fi models is that the LTE version will ship with a 64GB solid-state drive and the Wi-Fi version will only have 32GB).

Chromebook Pixel has a 12.85-inch high-density 2560×1700 screen (that's 4.3 million pixels) with a 3:2 aspect ratio, an Intel Core i5 processor and a 1 terabyte of free storage on Google Drive for three years.

The Pixel's screen has a pixel density of 239 pixels per inch (slightly higher than the 220 pixels/inch on the Macbook Pro with Retina display). And, though the company didn't disclose its hardware partner, Google VP Sundar Pichai said at a press event in San Francisco that "the hardware shines" and that it's perfect for those users who are "really committed to living completely in the cloud."
