When Will the Oscars End?

Culture

The Oscars tends to run late every year, and with the ceremony starting at 8:30 p.m. ET, you can anticipate sitting on the couch for at least three hours. It's scheduled to end at 11:30 p.m., but let's be real here: the darn show will be going on well into midnight, perhaps even until 12:30 a.m.

Sources told Deadline's Nikki Finke that the event lasted 3 hours and 40 minutes last week, but was shortened. Even so, we reportedly won't learn of the Best Picture winner until after three hours and 23 minutes. Finke predicts the whole enchilada could easily last four hours. Good grief! Don't these Californians need sleep? I know us East Coast folks do...ABC research shows that the Academy loses 100,000 viewers per minute after 11 p.m. on the East Coast, so the people in charge of this mess need to keep that in mind next year.
