Italy Election 2013 LIVE Updates: Divided Results Point to Run Off Election

A general election took place in Italy on February 24–25 to determine the 630 members of the Chamber of Deputies and the 315 elective members of the Senate for the 17th Parliament.

According to exit polls, the centre-left alliance Italy. Common Good, led by the Democratic Party obtained a plurality into the popular vote for the House. The centre-right alliance of former Prime minister Silvio Berlusconi obtained a plurality of seats in the Senate. And the new Five Star Movement of comedian Beppe Grillo became the third force, ahead of the centrist coalition of outgoing Prime minister Mario Monti.

The unfolding and divided result raises the possibility of new elections in the coming months, something that can work against the euro zone's third largest economy — as  it tries to pass the reforms it needs to address its economic crisis and reassure the markets.
