8 Reasons to Be Really Excited That It's Finally March

Culture

Thankfully, February is coming to a close. In my mind, as soon as March 1 hits, the sun is going to come out, and the weather is going to be amazing. While it doesn't quite work out that way, March is almost always better than February.

It may not be a perfect month, but March does have quite a bit going for it. Here are eight reasons to be excited for March 2013:

1. The weather

If you live in a warm climate, this is a "meh" bonus for you. But if you live in a winter climate, March finally gives you some days in the 60s where you praise the weather gods. There are bound to be some bad weather days, but seeing the sun makes it all worth while.

2. St. Patrick's Day

Whether you like Guinness, Bailey's, or just the "Kiss Me I'm Irish" T-shirts, St. Patty's Day is a fun one all around. For college aged kids, it's another reason to act like an idiot. For everyone else, it's a way to see if green is a good color on you.

3. Shamrock Shakes

They go hand in hand with St. Patrick's Day, but the McDonald's shakes are one of the fast food giant's most popular seasonal treats. (Other than the McRib.)

4. Batman Vol. 2: City of Owls (The New 52)

Scott Snyder's latest issue got so-so reviews, but fans of Batman can be excited about the upcoming issue out on March 26th. He teams up with illustrators Greg Capullo and Rafael Albuquerque for City of Owls

5. Oz The Great And Powerful

A prequel to one of the most well known films of all time, there are high expectations for Oz. James Franco seems up for the part, and the trailer makes it seem like the new film has a shot of living up to the high hopes. Oz The Great And Powerful is in theaters March 8.

6. The Incredible Burt Wonderstone

In one of Steve Carell's first big budget works since The Office, he'll be playing a magician. Amazingly, the final trick of the movie doesn't use camera tricks. Opening March 15th, joining Carell on screen are Jim Carrey, Steve Buscemi and Olivia Wilde.

7. Selection Sunday

Selection Sunday is when college basketball fans finally get to see who will be competing for the National Title. Selection Sunday gives us the bracket, and then we spend the next couple of days filling them out in the lead up to lower productivity all around America. Selection Sunday leads to the best part of the month...

8. March Madness

For fans of college basketball, it doesn't get any better than this. After Selection Sunday on the 17th, the tourney starts in earnest on the 21st, with game after game after game through the 22nd, 23rd, and 24th in the greatest weekend ever. Then, March 28th-31st the Final Four is decided.

March sure is great.
