Rand Paul Filibuster Time: 10 Hours and Counting

Impact

At 9:47 PM, Rand Paul's filibuster turned 10 hours old, and it shows no signs of stopping. Paul has said that he would relent only if the Obama administration provides an answer as to whether it believes it has the authority to engage in the targeted killing of a U.S. citizen on American soil.

Whether you agree with Paul or not on whether the executive branch should be able to unilaterally kill U.S. citizens not actively engaged in hostilities without any congressional or — what's constitutionally necessary — judicial oversight, you have to admire his resolve. Lawmakers are constantly under fire for not having any convictions and being available to the highest bidder. Paul doesn't have to do this, but he is, because he believes every word of what he's said today.
