Filiblizzard 2013: Winter Storm Rand Freezes U.S. Senate

Impact

As Winter Storm Saturn ventured toward the eastern seaboard, Rand Paul took to the floor of the United States Senate and informed his colleagues that he was going to speak for a few hours to discuss the Obama administration's drone policy. Ten hours later Paul is still going, taking a few breaks in between to field "questions" from his fellow senators.

These questions have no real aim, other than to allow Paul time to gather himself and even leave the chamber to get food and use the bathroom.

Today was supposed to be like any other day in the U.S. Senate — uneventful — but Paul took the opportunity during the floor debate concerning John Brennan's nomination to CIA director. Brennan is the chief architect of the Obama administration's drone program, and Paul has sought clarification as to whether the president believes he has the right to authorize the extrajudicial killing of American citizens, especially on U.S. soil.
