5 Argentines Who Used to Be More Famous Than Pope Francis
Before March 14, I'd have bet few of you could tell me who Jorge Bergoglio was. If you still don't know, turn on your TV to literally any channel and he'll probably be there, waving back. They call him Pope Francis now.
There are few better ways to broaden your name recognition than by becoming pope. You might be loved, you might be hated, but goddamnit, you will be ridiculously famous.
Much has been made of the fact that Bergoglio is the first Latin American and, by extension, first Argentine to hold the position. But before being hand picked by God, J.B. was merely second fiddle to these original hometown heroes.
That said, here are five Argentines who used to be more famous than the Cardinal Formerly Known as Jorge Bergoglio.
