Type In www.NewtGingrich.com For Newt Gingrich Website Prank

Impact

What happens when you go to www.newtgingrich.com? For starters you could be directed to a Greece tourism site in an apparent jab at Gingrich’s $2,500-a-person Greek cruise he took with his wife in early June. Or a Washington Post page with a headline reading “Gingrich Presidential Campaign Implodes.” Or even a YouTube video where he sits side by side former Democratic Speaker of the House Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) vowing to stop climate change and switch to clean energy.

Keep pasting the www.newtgingrich.com URL into your navigation bar and you will be directed to nine different embracing moments for Newt Gingrich. Every piece of dirt on the candidate from the last year shows up. But what doesn't show up is the Republican presidential front runner's campaign site.

That time Gingrich inadvertently named a porn company entrepreneur of the year? Check.

Remember when Gingrich’s campaign was ripped for looking more like a book tour? Check.

The $250,000 Tiffany’s debt the speaker once — and still might — owe? Well you get the idea, the URL takes you to the Tiffany’s website.

In a shocking mistake, the Gingrich campaign never seemed to think to buy the web page and domain name “newtgingrich.com.” His main campaign website, newt.org, on the other hand, profile’s the candidate’s campaign platforms, biography, news, etc. But the .com version has instead fallen prey to anti-Gingrich hackers.

This comes in the wake of another embracing internet faux pas by fellow Republican presidential candidate and Texas Governor Rock Perry, who failed to purchase the domain www.rickperry.com and saw the site and his brand for a short time infiltrated by supporters of Rep. Ron Paul (R-Texas).

Rick Santorum saw his name degraded on Google. For a time, when you searched for this candidate, the first result you got was a smear campaign orchestrated in by a pro-LGBT organization against the anti-gay candidate. It's pretty vivid, and clearly upset the candidate.

Gingrich, and other candidates who make such a simple error, deserve it. Clearly these candidates are so far out of touch with modern American society that they and their campaigns don't understand the simple process of internet real estate purchase.

In contrast, Jon Huntsman is taking full advantage of the internet and social media, putting together a twitter campaign to see his name blasted over 1,000 times a day.

Is 2012 the year that a bunch of old farts again run for president? If they don’t know basic internet practices, yes.

Welcome to the 21st century, Newt.
