Jodi Arias Trial LIVE Stream: Arias Defense Witness Under Tough Cross Examination

Impact

On Tuesday, the trial of Jodi Arias resumes as defense psychologist Richard Samuels remains on the witness stand. Samuels, who said the Arias suffered from Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder as a result of her relationship with Travis Alexander, who she killed when she shot him in the head and stabbed him 29 times.

Samuels and prosecutor Juan Martinez were involved in a particularly contentious exchange on Monday. This will be Samuels' third day on the stand.

Arias is on trial for first degree murder in the killing of her boyfriend, Travis Alexander, in June 2008. Arias claims she killed him in self-defense, after Alexander attacked her in a fit of rage.

The prosecution alleges that Arias had planned the attack in advance.

Arias took the stand in her own defense in testimony that lasted some 18 days, in part because Arizona is one of the few states in which juries can ask questions of witnesses. During that testimony, Arias described a pattern of abuse perpetrated by Alexander — psychological, physical, and sexual.
