NCAA Cinderella Teams 2013

Culture

Yesterday I wrote a post about the teams that could possibly be this year's Cinderella team. I picked Middle Tennessee State as one of those teams. They had to go and get beat by St. Mary's in the play-in game. But St. Mary's looked so good that I'm jumping right on their bandwagon.

Who else will it be this year? Who will give us a Valparaiso moment? Will there be another Stephen Curry and Davidson?

When the tourney begins on Thursday, here's a team in each bracket to look out for:

St. Mary's, 11-Seed, Midwest

The last time a mid-major bubble team was given an 11-seed in a play-in game was 2011. It was VCU. They went on to make the Final Four. While St. Mary's may not be a Final Four Team since the Midwest is the bracket from hell, but they are a dangerous team that Memphis and Michigan State both need to be weary of.

South Dakota State, 13-Seed, South

South Dakota State may be a 13-seed and may be facing one of the most talented teams in Michigan in its first round match-up, but SD State has a lot going for it. Nate Wolters is the type of veteran guard that could go Jimmer Fredette to give his team a win. Michigan needs to be careful of the upset in round one.

Wichita State, 9-Seed, West

The West Bracket is full of Cinderellas. The 1-Seed, Gonzaga, is one of the original Cinderellas. However, they need to beware of an upset themselves, especially in the round of 32 against Wichita State. The Shockers are tournament veterans, and have a squad that could very easily make a Sweet 16 run.

Bucknell, 11-seed, East

It pains me to say that Butler, one of my favorite mid-major schools, needs to be on upset alert in the first round of this year's Big Dance. However, they need to be on high alert. This Bucknell team is dangerous, and one that could even haunt Marquette in the 2nd round if they pull off the upset of Butler.
