My Chemical Romance Breakup: Band Calls it Quits After 12 Years of Musical "Bliss"

Culture

The (rock?) band My Chemical Romance has announced that they are breaking up. In a message posted on their website they thanked their fans for the support but offered no other explanation for the break up.

"Being in this band for the past 12 years has been a true blessing. We've gotten to go places we never knew we would. We've been able to see and experience things we never imagined possible. We've shared the stage with people we admire, people we look up to, and best of all, our friends. And now, like all great things, it has come time for it to end. Thanks for all of your support, and for being part of the adventure."

They first came into the music scene in 2002, but did not breakthrough to the mainstream until 2004 with the platinum album Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge. The band disappeared for a few years before returning with 2006's best-selling Welcome to the Black Parade.

2010’s Danger Days: The True Lives of the Fabulous Killjoys received critical and commercial acclaim. In true alternative, subversive, punk fashion, the single "Na Na Na" was chosen as the World Wrestling Entertainment’s official theme song. It is unlikely that the band was able to reach such great heights again after that.

It is not yet known where lovers of pseudo-cinematic pop-electronic-punk sound will go to fill the void that MCR will undoubtedly leave behind.

Let's remember the moment the magic first began . . .
