Todd Akin's Rape Comments Get the Law and Order Treatment

Culture

Remember Todd Akin? If you've blocked him out, here are a few GIFs that may bring back some of the emotional turmoil you experienced when claimed that women have magical lady parts that can prevent pregnancy during rape. If you're like me, you went through the classic five stages of grief:

Stage 1: Denial

Stage 2: Anger

Stage 3: Depression

Stage 4: Bargaining

Stage 5: Acceptance

Remember now? Sorry we had to go through that again!

After female voters "shut that whole thing down" by legitimately voting for his Democratic opponent, we thought we would stop hearing about legitimate rape forever, didn't we?

Well, thanks to Law and Order SVU, although Todd Akin’s career is undeniably over, his tremendous demonstration of misogyny and improvised biology will remain part of the fabric of American culture forever. NBC has just released an amazing teaser for this week’s briefly yet impeccably titled episode: "Legitimate Rape."

Although the video doesn't let us know if the infamous "the female body has ways to try to shut that whole thing down" will be part of the show, we do know they've decided to make Akin’s character serve as a witness defending a rapist where he will say "It’s nearly impossible for a victim of legitimate rape to get pregnant."

Now if you'll excuse me, I'm off to prepare five tons of grossly buttered popcorn in preparation for what is bound to be the best moment in television since Amy Poehler said "That was Hillary Clinton‘s husband!" after Bill Clinton presented at the Emmys.

Let's just say I'm 'legitimately' excited.
